Puerto Penasco, Mexico
Known to many Americans as Rocky Point, it is a superb vacation destination. The city is located on the Sea of Cortez and is directly south of the United States border (60 miles away).
Its proximity to the United States makes it a popular destination for Americans escaping the gripping cold of winter. In fact, the Puerto Penasco coastline presents the closest beaches for major cities such as Phoenix and Tucson (4 hours away). Puerto Penasco is also within driving distance of Southern California residents (6 hours from San Diego).
Puerto Penasco is a safe destination and is not afflicted by the violence that taints the reputations of some other Mexican cities. It has a population of close to 50,000 people with very friendly locals. It has warm weather year round but can get chilly in winter. The city receives only 3” of rain per year, so you can expect your trip to be sunny. The mild climate and desert landscape allow for a variety of land-based adventures, such as ATVing and nature tours. The warm sea and cool breeze offer the perfect setting for water-based fun such as jetskiing and banana boating. The downtown area has lots of shops and fantastic restaurants as well as a lovely promenade.
