Puerto Penasco also known as Rocky Point,and commonly referred to as “Arizona’s Beach  is a small fishing village in Northern Mexico, off the Sea of Cortez .  Rocky Point is famous for its shrimp.  Once a sleepy, quiet village, Rocky Point had housed the likes of Al Capone, as the mobster looked to get into the hotel business in Rocky Point during the days of prohibition.  Today, Puerto Penasco is in the midst of a transformation into a Mexican resort destination to rival the likes of Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta.  For many years American travelers have flocked to Rocky Point beaches to enjoy the Sea of Cortez and the quiet white sandy beaches that surround it.  Slowly, word spread about the beauty of Rocky Point Mexico and more and more travelers have been coming to Rocky Point.  Puerto Penasco as it is today is far more vast than it was in the days of Al Capone.  Rocky Point is a short 3 1/2 – 4 hours drive from Phoenix and Tucson, AZ.  With the new “Coastal Highway” now open, the drive from Southern California to Rocky Point can take anything from 5 – 6 hours.  Rocky Point has become a popular beach vacation destination.

In 1999,  Princesa Resort was the first resort on Sandy Beach to begin construction. Now in 2011 there are more than 10 resorts on Sandy Beach and approximately 3,500 condominiums.  There are future plans for Holland America Cruise Line to have Rocky Point as a Port of Call, and Mar de Cortez Airport to have International flights.  Currently, the only flights coming into Rocky Point are private charter flights, the International airport can accommodate flights from commercial airlines.  The Marriott  has plans to come to Rocky Point.

When you are in Rocky Point, you will want to visit the fish market in the Old Port area.  Here you will find fresh fish and shrimp for sale which have been caught by the local fisherman.   Just walk up to their storefront, and browse their selection of Seafood.  They will weigh your choice, and send what you purchased home with you for your dining pleasure.  There are also many Rocky Point restaurants located in the fish market area where you can sample some of the local flavors and fresh fish and shrimp.   There are a lot of shopping opportunities in the Old Port fish market area where one can buy one of many handmade items, you can also enjoy the shopping at Rocky Points “Rodeo Drive”.  When traveling to Rocky Point Mexico, you will want to make sure to visit the fish market.

Not far from the fish market are a few bars, Mannys Rocky Point being one of the most popular bars for the night life.  You will also find various other bars in the area that attract a lot of visitors looking to enjoy the night life of Rocky Point Mexico.  Mannys with it’s unique, seaside bar that has a lot of area to sit down and relax, or you can hit the dance floor and show off your “zumba” moves.  It is all up to you, either way it is pure fun!

When you arrive in Puerto Penasco you will find that there are a lot of activities, or you can simply just relax and unwind from your busy lifestyle.  Enjoy a sunset cruise,  kayak,  jet ski, ATV rental, rent a boat for a deep sea fishing charter,  or parasail over the Sea of Cortez.  Rocky Point also has some amazing scuba diving, it was once a place that Jacques Cousteau enjoyed diving.  If you want to be up close and personal, with some sea life, take a boat trip out to bird island.  Once here, you will be surrounded by Seals and Sea Lions in their natural habitat.  It is a sight to see and hear, and an experience you will never forget.

As you visit Rocky Point today you will find that there are many Rocky Point condos that line Sandy Beach.  It is here where you will find Las Palomas resort and Las Palomas Rocky Point.  Many people make their Rocky Point reservations to stay at this beautiful resort, Las Palomas.  Las Palomas resort has the only golf course on Sandy beach with it’s first class amenities unseen on Sandy beach such as a lazy river, swim up bar and many more.  Once you visit this beautiful town you will be drawn to come back again and again.
